FAQs
The questions we get asked.
Booking a day, what happens on it, the scoring, the players, the sponsorship and the data. If yours is not here, ask us: a real reply from one of the three of us within one working day.
Getting started
How far ahead should we book?
As early as you have a date, even a rough one. We hold the date for the season while you decide, and most organisers book next year within weeks of this year's day finishing. For 2027 we are taking bookings now.
What do you need from us?
To start: the venue, the date and roughly how many players. Nearer the day: the format you want, your player list with handicaps, the teams and tee times, and your partners' logos. We set the event up and draw the course for the broadcast; you sign off the running order without leaving the day job.
Can we use our own course?
Yes, any course. We draw your venue's course map for the screen before the day, so every group is plotted on your holes. Most clubs already have a map we can work from.
We have never done anything like this before.
Most organisers have not. It is the day you already know how to run, with a middle added. We install everything before doors open, run it alongside you and stay all day. The Control Centre is one iPad shared between you and us: run as much of it as you want, or hand it over and enjoy the morning you organised.
Where do you cover?
We are based in Stockport and cover the North West first: Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and anywhere within a morning's drive. Further afield is a conversation, not a no. Tell us where the day is.
On the day
What if there is no signal on the course?
The trackers do not use the phone network. They talk to receivers we put up around the course before doors open. The app keeps the card on the phone when there is no signal and syncs the moment there is.
What if a player will not use the app?
Nobody has to. There is one card per group, and any one person in it can enter the whole group's scores. No account, no password, nothing to install before the day.
What if a tracker fails?
We carry spares and swap it at the desk. A player without a tracker still shows on the map beside the rest of their group, and a group with no tracker at all still appears on the board from its scores, marked as an estimated position until it is back.
Do we need wifi in the clubhouse?
We bring the screen, or plug into the club's, and we bring the connection the broadcast needs. We check the room with the venue beforehand so there are no surprises on the morning.
Who operates it on the day?
We do, alongside you. Our team installs the receivers, the trackers and the markers, runs check-in and the big screen, and stays until the presentation. Staffed delivery is part of the product, not a launch extra.
Competition and scoring
Which formats do you support?
Strokeplay, Stableford, Scramble and Better Ball, individual or team, gross or nett. Team Stableford with the best two of four counting is the most common, and the one every example on this site uses.
Do you calculate handicaps?
Yes. Allowances, team handicaps and the tie-break are configured once from your course's stroke indexes and calculated all day. You can override a team handicap, and the reason is recorded.
How are ties settled?
Countback, the way your day already does it: back nine, then back six, back three and back one. It is configurable if your day settles ties differently.
Can a score be corrected?
Yes, from the Control Centre, with the reason captured. Every entry and every edit on every card is audited, so a card filled in from memory at the bar looks different from one kept on the course.
How do longest drive and nearest the pin work?
Claims are made in the app at the marker itself. The claim button only lights up when the player is in range, the marker moves to the ball, and the distance is worked out from the tee. The claim stands unless the organiser voids it, and every claim and every dethroning plays out on the big screen. Whole-round boards such as most birdies and top putter run for every day too, and any of them can carry a partner and a prize.
For players
Do I need an account?
No. Scan the code at check-in, put your name in and you are on the day. Your details are only used to send you your report.
Does it drain my battery?
The tag does the tracking, not your phone. Your phone only carries the card, and only one phone per group needs to.
Can I see the leaderboard while I play?
That is the organiser's call. Standings in the app can be on all day, off entirely, or on until the closing holes and then dark, so the finish belongs to the clubhouse. The big screen and the follow link always have them.
What do I get afterwards?
Your Day, Afterwards: your walk on the course map, your numbers, your moments, the holes where your card carried the team, and a share card for the group chat. It lands by text and email the same evening, as a private link that is yours to keep and share. See what is in it.
Sponsorship and cost
What does a partner get?
A hole the room is watching: their plate on the course map, their line on the hole-by-hole board, and their name in the ticker every time their hole makes a moment. The flagship holes carry the longest drive and nearest the pin, and the presenting partner sits beside the day's name on every screen, email and report. The whole tour is on the Sponsors page.
Can you help us sell it?
Yes. The Sponsors page is your pitch, we give you the partner packages to sell against, and if holes are still left we place partners from our regional directory of businesses looking for days to back. Help me sell my holes.
Can the day pay for itself?
It usually covers what the day costs to run. That is arithmetic on what holes sell for, not a guarantee, and it depends on the holes selling, which is where the directory comes in.
Do you publish prices?
No. A CourseSide day is one managed fee that covers the kit, the people and the day, and it depends on the day. Tell us about yours and we will tell you the number and what your sponsorship would cover.
Data
What do you hold?
The player list your organiser gives us, with names and handicaps; the scores entered on the day; each tracker's position during the round; and the contact details a report is sent to. The day's names and scores are on the clubhouse screen and the follow link while it is played.
How long do you keep it?
Reports stay available so the link keeps working, and enquiries are kept while we might work together. Ask and we will remove yours. The detail is in our privacy notice.
Is my report public?
No. Each report is its own private link that cannot be guessed and is never exposed by the day's follow link. It only goes further if you send it.
Can I keep my name out of the ticker?
Yes. The pre-round ticker's personality lines come from a reviewed pool and are warm, never mocking, but any player can opt out. Tell your organiser.
Got a day in the diary for next season?
We are taking bookings for 2027 now. Tell us the date and the venue and we will tell you exactly what your day would look like.
